Some obvious examples are Celia Thaxter's Isles of Shoals poetry and Metalious' Gilmanton/Peyton Place parallels. Folksinger Bill Staines wrote an ode to the Old Man of the Mountain and Daniel Webster used the Old Man in a famous speech. The dialogue from Golden Pond describes the ambiance of the Squam Lakes. You get the idea. Let me know of any others, well known or obscure, that come to mind.
