Even though it took place in fictitious Grover's Mill, New Hampshire, it is believed that he based it on the town of Peterborough. I believe that the movie "Jumanji" takes place in New Hampshire. Parts of it were filmed in Keene, and possibly Jaffrey. The movie "The River Runs North", with Rip Torn and Tantoo Cardinal, takes place in northern New Hampshire sometime in the early 1920's. Stephen King's novel, "The Stand", mentions Epsom, Exeter, Concord, Portsmouth, and I think Lancaster. I believe his novel "The Dead Zone" takes place in New Hampshire. The sci-fi novel "Circles Within" by Christian DeCosta takes place primarily in Hebron, Gilmanton, on Mount Washington, with mentions of Laconia, Bretton Woods, and Randolph. There were also two science fiction novels that took place in the Hanover/Dartmouth College area. Unfortunately the names of the books and their author escapes me at the moment. I'll post that info as soon as I can find it. -DCE Rick Broussard wrote: > I'm compiling a list of locations in New Hampshire that have appeared in > literature, poetry, historic speeches, song, even film scripts.
